Toddlers are a lot of fun--most of the time. Toddlers are a huge pile of emotion, which means parenting one can be difficult at the best of times. If you have a toddler who hits or bites, it makes it even harder. What is considered good and bad behavior though? It's hard to say. If you have childcare providers that help with your toddler, it can be even more difficult if they start to seemingly act out with their behavior. To know what is normal and not normal can be hard, especially if someone else seems to be complaining about your toddler. Although negativity about your child can be a sign of a bad daycare provider, it can also signal that there is more going on with your child. Here I wanted to talk about three surprisingly normal toddler behaviors, as it seems many parents are shocked by things that are actually considered normal by parenting experts. Toddler hitting—as much as no parent likes it, it’s actually normal to have your toddler hit other children. It’s certainly not an ideal situation, and we definitely don’t recommend allowing your toddler to continue hitting, but it does happen. If you struggle with this, it is time to try and figure out where the behavior is coming from. There are different answers depending on this. Some toddlers hit because they are happy, exciteable, scared, or angry. Once you figure out the root behind the behavior, it’s often easier to change the behavior Having trouble at daycare—some kids have trouble at daycare, while other children throw tantrums at home but are angels in childcare. It’s difficult to say which your child will be. If your child is having trouble, unfortnetly this can be very difficult to deal with. The recommendations for dealing with this are different depending on the expert you talk to, so it’s best to talk it over with your daycare provider and see what they think. If the two of you can come to an agreement, that’s great. If not, it may be time to start looking for another childcare provider. Toddler biting. This is probably the most unfortunate, and it’s very difficult to deal with at times. Sometimes you can scold a child and tell them that biting is not acceptable, but this does not always do the trick. Sometimes it is something where you need to talk to your child’s doctor and see what their recommendation is for curbing the behavior. Luckily, biting is a behavior that usually does not stick around for long, and most kids do not bite after the age of four. Keep in mind, a biting child may not be able to go to daycare, so it’s best to curb it as quickly as possible. Sometimes your toddler may act out because they are bored. Consider looking at the best play doh sets for toddlers, as play doh is an excellent tool to help your toddler learn to regulate their emotions better. We hope that these tips regarding your toddler can help make your life a little easier. With time and a little patience, life with a toddler does get easier. Remember, your child wants to make you happy and wants to be loved by you.
